David Haynie

For Humboldt Community Services District

Low Rates, Low Fees, Transparency

Hi. I'm David Haynie. I'm a HSU graduate and I've lived in Humboldt County for over 17 years.

I'm running for Humboldt County Services District Board.

Fiscal & Operational Experience

I have worked as a fiscal steward for various operations in this county for over 15 years.

I think we can improve the Humboldt Community Services District Board if we:

  • Ensure HCSD website includes ALL board meeting agendas ahead of time.

  • Start an Online Newsletter to easily send important information to the community regularly

  • Send bill increase and seat vacancy information as soon as possible

No Rate Increases

I am against all water and sewer rate increases. Ratepayers didn't get enough notice in advance of the last rate increase 3 years ago. We didn't get much notice about the rate increase that passed last month either. We have to keep the community informed and involved in order to prevent this from happening again.

Public notices of plans to annex lands need to be sent to the community well in advance of the decision making process.

I think the HCSD should be very clear and up front with all their dealings and decision making. Why are bills being increased for a $12 million Martin Slough interceptor that hasn't materialized yet?

Support for Low Income Households

Let's adopt a low income rate payer assistance program. We have to help households that are struggling to make ends meet in the era of COVID. Let's postpone late fees and penalties on low income households. That process should be easy and should not burden the HCSD staff. We have to protect our community including our workers.
